Interview with Richard Rowan of Elief Web Hosting
Tell us a little about your background. What industry experience you have? And what did you do before Elief?
Before elief I had little industry experience other then running a few of my own sites throughout highschool and college. I was a manager at a local business and was attending college classes for a Bachelor of Business Administration when I began development of elief in late 2007. We started doing business in February of 2008. Since then we’ve grown into a well respected hosting company, largely popular with many small business and e-Commerce websites.
What is the History of Elief and what has led to your success in the hosting industry?
I partially answered this question above, however I would have to say that the biggest part of our success is being able to provide our customers with a quality product and great customer service. Our customers really appreciate the attention they receive and that has given us a lot of word of mouth referrals.
Tell our readers about Elief, your products and services.
eLief is a full service web hosting company offering a wide range of products. We offer web hosting and magento hosting starting at $5.95/month and cPanel Reseller hosting starting at $29.95/month. We’ve also started to focus more on our VPS and Dedicated Server products.
Do you have any other changes or additions to your service in this coming year?
Absolutely. 2010 is going to be a big year for us and we’re really excited about what we’re going to be able to do. The internet is changing at a very rapid pace and hosted software and applications are continuing to become more powerful, and as an after-effect, more resource intensive. I can’t give away all our secrets, but I will say that by 2011 we will be offering a High-Availability, high-performance cPanel cloud. This will allow our users to scale from a basic web hosting account all the way up to the power of multiple dedicated servers, without ever having to migrate their website. It will also allow customers to take advantage of this level of service at a much more affordable price then they would usually pay.
How does Elief fit into the web hosting industry? What makes you different?
eLief isn’t a budget hosting company or a top-dollar one. We fit somewhere in the middle and offer premium services at exceptional pricing. Customer service is our forte and our customers certainly appreciate the personal attention they receive, I would have to stay that is the biggest difference between us and our competitors.
How many customers does Elief currently have and what have you found has been the best way to grow your customer base?
We’re currently hosting over 1,000 small business and e-commerce websites, and are continuing to grow at a very rapid pace. I’ve found the best way to grow your customer base is consistency. Consistently go above and beyond what your customers expect and they will love you for it. There is no better way to start getting your customers to talk about you.
Do you currently have your own datacenter and where are they located?
We own all our hardware and currently have them located in Dallas, TX at the Colo4Dallas facility.
Do you have multiple backbone connections to the internet?
Of course – our facility has Multi-Gigabit connectivity to three tier1 backbone providers. Level3, InterNap and TW Telecom. Our network is also enhanced by BGP with Internap FCP, this appliance identifies the absolute fastest route possible and intelligently sends data, improving performance 15 to 25 percent.
As far as support goes, do you offer true 27/7/365 support with live technicians?
We have 24×7x365 support, offered through our ticketing and email system. LiveChat is also available from 9AM – 5PM EST.
Can you tell us more about these support mechanisms and to what lengths will you go to satisfy customer’s needs?
This is where we really shine and I could go into great detail for many pages about our support methods. Instead, I’d rather let one of our customers tell you, http://alittlechaostheory.com/?title=today-i-am-thankful-for&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
The hosting industry has changed a lot in the last year, what predictions do you foresee for this coming year?
I see the cloud computing technology really advancing within the next year and I believe many of the standard VPS and dedicated server offerings will start to be phased out. As “The Cloud” moves forward, it will start to make sense for more consumers
Lastly, what is your favorite website and the most recent book you have read?
My favorite website right now would probably have to be Hulu, I stay pretty busy so when I have some spare time it lets me catch up on some of my favorite shows. The most recent book I’ve read is “The Shack” by William P. Young.
